Letter: Sustainable Milton seeks preservation of Hendries oak

Dear Mr. Clark and members of the planning board,

I am writing to you on behalf of Sustainable Milton as our board voted unanimously at our February meeting to approach you in an official capacity to support the Hendries black oak located at the corner of Eliot St. and Central Ave..

We are very concerned about the preservation of this tree for several reasons but principally due to the positive environmental benefits (clean air) which it provides in a high traffic location where there are few trees, as well as the historical nature of this specimen which is over 200 years old.

It is our understanding that the tree has been given a clear bill of health by Largess Forestry, so that with due care this tree should continue to contribute to the air quality and esthetics of this neighborhood.  We therefore strongly recommend that the developer be encouraged to incorporate the tree in their plans by acknowledging its historical, health and esthetic importance.

Thank you for your consideration of this matter,

Sarah Mills
