The Friends of Milton Crew held a fundraiser at Fuller Village that exceeded their expectations.
The group, which formed to establish a rowing team at Milton High, has raised $25,000, an amount that will enable them to qualify for a recently awarded 2:1 matching grant from the DCR. They needed to raise $18,000 to obtain a grant of $36,000. With the funds in hand they can move forward with building out a dock at Neponset Park. (View location here.) Conrad Crawford, the DCR’s Director of Partnerships said, “The Friends of Milton Crew are a great example of the types of partnerships we seek to foster. By enhancing the dock facility at Neponset Park, they are improving water access to the Neponset for the general public so that all can enjoy this great resource.”
Last Wednesday’s fundraiser featured a silent auction and was MC’d by Dan Flynn. Mr. Flynn quickly, successfully, and humorously obtained pledges from the audience for oars to complement the two boats that have been donated by Duxbury.
John Rhee, President of the Friends of Milton Crew, was enthusiastic about the community response to the event. We are extremely pleased to have the funds in hand that will help us take the next step in having boats in the water this spring. The community support has been fantastic and speaks to the demand and interest that exists to bring rowing to Milton High. We are extremely grateful to all the businesses and individuals that donated goods and services that helped to make this such a success.”
