Temple Shalom of Milton will be showing Island of Roses: The Jews of Rhodes in Los Angeles, and the public is invited to attend.
Island of Roses: The Jews of Rhodes in Los Angeles, a charming documentary, visits the Los Angeles community of Rhodeslis, Jews who lived on the Mediterranean island of Rhodes from 1492 to World War II. It shows how immigrants from Rhodes passed down their traditions, foods, songs, rituals, and their medieval Ladino Spanish dialect to their American-born children and grandchildren. Informative and entertaining, this film is an excellent opportunity to experience a little-known area of Jewish culture and history.
The donation for admission is $3.00 per person, two for $5.00. Advance reservations get a free popcorn or bottle of water. Become a Movie Series Sponsor for $18 and get tickets for all three movies, Nov. 20, Dec. 18, and Jan. 22, with preferred seating, popcorn and drinks.
