The devil in the Hendries details

Commentary by Frank Schroth

The summary provided by the Chair of the Board of Selectmen Denis Keohane regarding the Hendries property was welcome news to the neighborhood and town. But as Senator Joyce, who resusitated this, knows, the devil is in the details.

The town had one available beer and wine license, and two supermarkets – Roche Bros. and Star Market – competing for it. “It was a very difficult decision,” Selectmen Chairman Stephen Robbin said. “We have two great businesses in town, and they both employ a lot of people. And we always want to see our businesses flourish, but we only had one license to give.” (Read the full story here.)
