Motorists beware: Casey Overpass will be closed for weekends in October

The Casey Overpass, which carries Route 203/Arborway over Washington and New Washington streets in Forest Hills, will be closed next weekend— Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.— as work crews perform what MassDOT calls “emergency repairs to the driving surface of the road to ensure the bridge can remain open during snow and ice events.” (Read the full story here.)

State Police and Milton Police make arrest in April Murder

A 30-year old Roxbury man was arrested by Massachusetts State Police detectives attached to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Milton Police and Boston Police for the April 2013 murder of Jordan Baskin in the town of Milton, District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Chief Richard G. Wells, Jr. announced.

Reminder: R&B band Part-Tme Lovers to perform at the library

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2 PM, the Milton Public Library will host the dynamic blues and R&B band called “Part-Time Lovers” in a free one-hour concert held in the Keys Community Room (lower level).  Named “Best Blues Band in Boston” by Boston Blues Society in 2000, the group is led by ace drummer Brian Kelley and includes the talented Berklee College of Music professor Craig Hlady on guitar, fellow faculty member Dave Clark on bass, and the always charismatic and entertaining Steve Matthews on vocals. 

Frank thoughts on a possible override and Myles Connor

Early last spring, members of the Warrant Committee made statements indicating that they felt there was a strong possibility that the town would need an override if it wants to maintain service levels (teachers, police, etc.) at their current levels. This is not a surprise. What might come as a surprise is Myles Connor’s appearance this evening at the Milton Art Center. We won’t be there.

Members of the Milton High School debate team travelled to New Haven, Connecticut last weekend to take part in a national debate competition. They acquitted themselves well. Two of Milton’s teams advanced to semi-final rounds.

Local artist Beth Neville to exhibit at Milton Public Library

During the month of October, the Milton Public Library will host talented artist Beth Neville in the Wotiz Gallery on the first floor.   Ms. Neville’s work has been featured in 18 solo exhibits, ranging from the Kalarson Gallery in New York City to the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, NY.
