Letter: Remembering Kevin

from Paula Rizzi, Secretary to Board of Selectmen

There is always a bit of a grieving process when someone you know and admire is no longer a part of your daily life. In an effort to make that grieving process a little bit easier, I would like to tell you what it was like working with Kevin Mearn these past five years.

Letter: Don’t put that bike away too soon

from Eric Ask, Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee

I’m writing to remind your readers to think twice before putting their bicycle away at the end of the summer. The Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee, DPW, Police Department and others in Town Government have worked hard to assure the streets of Milton are safe for cycling with bike lanes, sharrows and enforced speed limits, while the common destinations (business districts, library, public parks) have conveniently located bike racks.

MARVIN A. GORDON, Milton: Vote out two selectmen for ousting Kevin Mearn as town administrator

from The Patriot Ledger

Fellow voters, with your votes please do NOT renew the contracts of the two selectmen who last week brought dishonor on our town in its 350th year by their disgraceful action in rejecting the contract renewal of our exemplary, dedicated and fully competent town administrator, Kevin Mearn, a town employee of 38 years. (Read the full text of Mr. Gordon’s letter to the Ledger here.)

Letter: Schools need to address critical enrollment issues

Ms. Renz appeared during Citizen Speak at the most recent School Committee meeting. Following is full text of her remarks to the committee.

Thank you Chairman Pavlicek, members of the School Committee (“SC”) Board, Superintendent Gormley and Assistant Superintendents Phelan and Gillis.

My name is Jennifer Renz and my husband, Justin, and I reside at 48 Walnut Street. We are the parents of three children, twins that will be entering second grade English at the Glover in August 2012 and an incoming first grade English student who is slated to enter the co-taught class as a role model student at the Glover. I say slated because my husband and I have yet to decide whether or not my youngest son should enter a classroom that we feel is not presently educationally sound.

Letter: Retired Fire Chief expresses concerns with safety of Hendries building

from Malcolm Larson

May 10, 2012

One issue that continues to be ignored is the dangerous condition of this building and the hazard it presents to Firefighters, neighbors, unknown occupants and the Mattapan / Ashmont trolley. During my time as Milton Fire Chief (1998-2009) I was in command at the 1999 Hood Cold Storage fire on Wharf Street. This 9 Alarm fire required mutual aid from as far away as Waltham and over 100 Firefighters at times, not to mention the trolley shutdown and financial costs. It took weeks to fully extinguish and was the largest fire and hazardous material incident of the year in Massachusetts.

Letter: Enough – time to resolve Hendries differences and move on

from Thomas McGrath

I had intended to speak at tonite’s (February 9) Planning Board but was unable to attend. The following are the comments I had planned to make:

My name is Tom McGrath. I live at 123 Cliff Rd Milton. I am a practicing Architect and I worked on this project for the Connellys from sometime around 2001 until early 2008. I made the presentation to the Town Meeting in 2006 for the zoning change that included this review by the Planning Board.

Letter: Regarding Hendries, town should wait for a better plan

from Ellen DeNooyer

February 6, 2012

To the Editor,

I am writing as a long-time Milton resident and an architect, to commend the Planning Board for their hard work and continued efforts on behalf of the Town to achieve a quality development at the Hendries site. The process has been slow largely because the developer has caused delay by not providing sufficient information, by not responding to the Board’s requests or to public comments, and by postponing his presentations.

Letter: Call for support against budget cuts to music in schools

from The Friends and Advocates of Music Education

Hello,

We are writing to you because of our immense concern over the possible cuts to music programming at the elementary school level, according to the most recent budget proposals under your consideration. As the co-chairs of Friends and Advocates for Music Education (FAME), we write to ask your help ensuring that music programs at the elementary level and across all grades continue at full or additional funding.
