FAVA arts & crafts summer camp open for registration

The Friends and Advocates of the Visual Arts (FAVA) are holding an old school arts & crafts summer camp for elementary school age childeren from 1:00 – 4:00pm at Milton High School beginning the week of July 5th.

The 4 week camp offers a fun filled journey where we explore a number of art forms together. The camp is based on learning and having fun with an emphasis of process over product. Campers will be allowed to explore new ideas and media creatively and gain new art skills. Each day will include time for ART, snack, FUN & Games!

The sessions inlcude:

  • Week 1 July 5-9: Back to The 60’s: tie dye, gimp, sand art, pet rocks, macramé, spin art and silk screen T-shirt. We will look at popular artists of the 60’s  i.e. Warhol, Lichtenstein, Pollack and Oldenburg
  • Week 2 July 12-16: Green Art: nature art, weaving, fish printing, dream catchers, photo sun prints, clay, recycle art and silk screen T-shirt. We will look at work of environmental artists.
  • Week 3 July 19-23: Pixs & Flix: pinhole camera, black box animation, collage, stop-motion animation and silk screen T-shirt. We will draw inspiration from various filmmakers and photographers.
  • Week 4 July 26-30: Fractured Fairy Tales: altered books, printmaking, paper making, stencil, type art, story art, construct fairy houses and silk screen T-shirt. We will delve into the world of fairy folklore.

ABOUT FAVA
FAVA, Friends and Advocates for the Visual Arts, exists as a fee based art enrichment program for the children of Milton, MA. It is a parent organization begun in 2003 to help provide additional art time for children. FAVA is a pragmatic response for parents and art teachers who desire increased exposure to the arts for children. FAVA maintains that art is an integral part of a child?s education. The Education Reform Act classified the Arts as a core part of the curriculum. FAVA also exists
as an advocate for increased funding and attention to the Visual Arts program for the Milton Public Schools.In the past FAVA has funded art related items for the Milton schools like the ACE bus, installing the kiln at Pierce, and purchasing art materials not covered by the budget.
