This past week Governor Patrick signed antibullying legislation into law. Some advocated describe this legislation as the toughest in the country. The Massachusetts legislature was propelled to act as a result of two tragic events that occurred as a result of unrelenting bullying.
We sat down with Superintendent Mary Gormley, Student Resource Officer Maria Poles, and Assistant Principal Alan Cron to discuss the issue of bullying in the Milton public schools. The discussion will be broadcast on MATV at 6:30pm Monday.
The key take away from all three of the officials is that parents talk to their children, monitor their use of technology (especially middle school and younger) and that both students and parents be vigilant and report incidents.Mr. Cron noted that the older the students get, the more invisible the act of bullying becomes. Be on the look out for changes in behavior.
This can be done anonymously. The police can be reached at 617-696-cops and callers can request anonymity whenever the call the schools.
The program will be rebroadcast Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7:30pm.
