Murray Regan enters the ring in run for School Committe seat

And then there were four.

Murray Regan makes four the official number of candidates running for the two open seats on the School Committee in one of the more interesting election seasons Milton has seen in some time. The other candidates are the incumbent Glenn Pavlicek, and challengers Denis Keohane and Margaret Eberhardt.

The following was contributed by the candidate:

Murray Regan, a 51 year resident of Milton and a 1976 graduate of Milton High School, announced his candidacy for election to the Milton School Committee on April 27th.

Regan was recently appointed to the Consolidated Facilities Committee (CFC), which is charged with exploring savings to the town by combining all town facilities under one department.  According to Mr. Regan, “Cost savings is a worthwhile endeavor and one to which I am dedicated.”  Over the long term, the town will save millions with this initiative.  Mr. Regan will bring this same passion to the School Committee.

Mr. Regan lives with his wife Kathy and their two daughters.  One is a junior at Milton High School, the other a 4th grader at Glover School.  They flourish in the educational environment afforded them by the taxpayers of Milton.  “As a family, we value the opportunity to participate in a well run school system.  I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure the same for all Milton’s children.”

Professionally, Regan is an engaged member of the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers.  Appointed to its Governmental Affairs Committee, he works to influence legislative efforts on a statewide basis.  Regan’s experience in the private sector has taught him entrepreneurship and the need to adapt to economic realities.  He will bring a logical business–oriented perspective and an independent voice to the committee.  He believes these qualities will be an asset, as the Town and schools work together to meet the challenges in the years ahead.

While there has been progress in the schools, there remain significant challenges ahead.  The Committee must continue to address Adequate Yearly Progress for all students.  But the most pressing issue is the ability to fund the schools at an effective level.  The upcoming negotiations with our unions is one key to controlling costs, if we are to maintain a topnotch education for our children.  Mr. Regan says, “I will work tirelessly toward that goal.”

Mr. Regan respectfully requests both your support and your vote on April 27th in his bid for election to the Milton School Committee.
