Margaret Eberhardt has officially announced that she is in the running for one of two seats open on the School Committee. One seat is vacant due to Beirne Lovely retiring from the committee, the second is Glenn Pavlicek’s. He is up for re-election. There are three other candidates competing for the spots. Mr. Pavlicek and Murray Regan who took out papers and Denis Keohane, who announced that he is in the race yesterday.
This will be an interesting race.
The following was contributed by the candidate:
Eberhardt is a program administrator at Children’s Happy Day School in West Roxbury. She has a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development from Teacher’s College, Columbia University and over 11 years of volunteer experience in the town, including many leadership positions. She has served as president and board member of the Glover PTO; board member of the Milton Foundation for Education; Co-chair of Celebration for Education 2009; president and board member of Milton Youth Soccer League; and co-coordinator of the Milton Outdoor Classroom Project.
Eberhardt is excited about the possibility of furthering her commitment to quality public education in Milton. “Our public schools in Milton face many challenges: increasing enrollment with limited financial resources, growing demands for accountability/assessment, and achievement gaps to name three,” Eberhardt said. “I would be an advocate for maintaining the excellent programs we offer our students and working toward creative solutions to the challenges we face.” Eberhardt says she will be an advocate for educating the whole child, including academics, art, music, and physical education. Having served for the past six months on the World Language Parent Committee, Eberhardt is also committed to working with parents and teachers on improving the school system’s world language programs. “If elected to the school committee, I would be the strongest advocate for the best practices for all students,” Eberhardt said.
