Bob Sweeney formally announced that he is in the running for a seat on the Milton Board of Selectmen.
Three candidates filed papers for the seat by the deadline. In addition to Mr. Sweeney, there is the incumbent, Kathy Fagan, and Steve Frezzetti of Granite Avenue.
Mr. Sweeney was recently in the public spotlight at co-chair of the Governor Stoughton Trust Land Committee. That committee wrapped up its report and recommended the Selectmen establish a $5 million fund in support of the town’s poor. You can find the report here. As with all issues involving property management and potential development, it was contentious. Mr. Sweeney and his committee did not have an easy time of it given the vocal opposition they heard regarding possible commercial and residential development options.
Mr. Sweeney lives with his wife and daughter in Indian Cliffs which abuts the Stoughton property. He has been active in a variety of town organizations. He is the longtime director of the “Learn to Skate” program at the Ulin Rink. He is also vice-president of Milton Youth Hockey and engaged with the Babe Ruth League.
In a video of his announcement, Mr. Seeney states, “My agenda is one of family, neighborhood, and town.”
