This is the third in a series of posts that recognize officers of the Milton Police Department who have been officially commended for their service over the past couple of years. (Here are Part 1 and Part 2.
There are three levels of commendation that may be conferred on officers by the Chief of Police. They are Excellence in Police Service, Diligence to Duty, and Extraordinary Police Action. We acknowledged three officers in the previous post. With respect and admiration, here are two more:
Patrol Officer John Fahey received a department commendation for “Diligence to Duty” on July 24, 2008. Fahey had a hunch and followed it. In doing so the police apprehended two suspects that had been involved in a series of thefts. Fahey was called to the scene of an incident in which a homeowner discovered two individuals attempting to steal rims and wheels from his wife’s car. Police searched for the suspects for over an hour with no luck. Officer Fahey then perched himself by the T stop on Eliot Street. There he observed a cab pull dow the walkway and pic up two passengers. The homeowner positively identified the suspects who were found to have credit cards belonging to a Milton resident. His commendation, signed by Chief Wells, reads in part:
“Officer Fahey’s keen perception and effort resulted in the arrest of two serious felons. Both suspects had spent the night perpetrating crimes against Milton residents.”
Sergeant Thomas Wilson received a department commendation for “Diligence to Duty” on December 30, 2008. Sergeant Wilson was instrumental in the safe apprehension and control of a Milton resident who had become emotionally distraught to the point of being suicidal and a danger to himself and the public. Family reports concerned police sufficiently that they contacted Sprint in an attempt to locate the individual by use of his cell phone. Sergeant Wilson observed the person while on patrol, directed unit at the scene to successfully stop the vehicle and supervised the taking the individual who was large, strong, and bleeding from self-inflicted wounds safely into custody. His commendation, signed by Chief Wells, reads in part:
“Sgt. Wilson’s leadership, calm demeanor and diligence to duty during a situation which clearly jeopardized human life is commendable.”
Congratulations to these officers for the commendations they received and thank you to entire police department for their service to the town.
