Several Milton residents have pivotal roles in the cast and crew of Les Miserables, the epic tale of passion, redemption, and revolution, coming soon to Riverside Theatre Works.
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is the story of Jean Valjean, sent to prison in 19th-century France for stealing a loaf of bread for his family. He breaks parole and tries to make good of his life, but is hunted by the unrelenting Inspector Javert. A plot that spans decades is filled with acts of cunning and mercy, tales of sacrifice and unrequited love, all set to an indelible, Tony-Award-winning score.
Performances will take place May 8, 9, 15, and 16 at 8 p.m., May 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m., and May 10 and 17 at 3 p.m.Tickets cost $18-25 and can be purchased at www.rtwboston.org or by calling 1-866-811-4111.
Milton resident Marilyn Whipple, veteran of Riverside and the Milton Players, is music director for the production. Most recently at Riverside, she was the music director of Hairspray. Her husband Mark Whipple, the lighting designer, has done lighting design for several productions with Riverside Theatre Works and the Milton Players, including Riverside’s April Vacation Week production of Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Their daughter Emily Whipple, a graduate of Milton High School, is in the ensemble, along with PK Egersheim, Jim Foster, and Kelli Neville. All are veterans of the Riverside stage.
Henry Dolgoff, 13, an eighth grader at Pierce Middle School, is making his Riverside debut as Gavroche, a scrappy young boy who becomes a mascot for the revolutionaries. Dolgoff will appear in the performances on May 9, 13, 15, and 17.
