This afternoon Senator Brian A. Joyce confirmed that the Massachusetts State Senate has passed enabling legislation for the town of Milton to issue a liquor license for the site of the former theatre in East Milton Square. The bill passed the Senate on his request on behalf of the town. Once signed by the Governor, the Selectmen will be able to issue the additional license. The bill was filed by Representative Timilty who shepherded it through the house. You can find the bill history here.
This should be good news for the Falconi Company, owners of the East Milton Theater. Their initial plan was to put a restaurant into the space but that was contingent on the granting of a liquor license. As with any development, there are many moving parts; but, hopefully, this will provide the reassurance they need to move forward.
Jean Schmidt recently went before the Planning Board to discuss maintenance of the facade of the building. It was more informational as site plan approval was not required for this step in the renovation which will consist of but not be limited to leveling the sidewalk, removing material in disrepair (e.g. rotting window casings), and replacing doors that are not ADA compliant.
