Early this morning at around 2:25am a fire broke out at a house on Central Avenue just up from School Street. It sent the 8 inhabitants fleeing. Chief Grant stated that the fire went to 3 alarms. It started outside on the first floor and spread up both the interior stairs and the deck stairs on the exterior. The fire damaged all three floors as well as the attic.
The Chief reported there were no injuries. As of this afternoon he did not have a cause at this point.
According to an article in Wicked Local Milton “Deputy Acting Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Murphy said the fire scorched part of the third-floor unit at 54 Central Ave. and left smoke damage throughout the building. He estimated damage at around $200,000.”
“It’s definitely uninhabitable at this point, on all floors,” he said. You can find the full article here.
NOTE: A comment on our Facebook page states that there are 3 families are in need. Radio Coffee is collecting clothes etc. for the families.
I stopped and talked to a tenant and she couldn’t say enough about the great job MFD did and how kind & caring they were. It appeared to me to be a a quality well remodeled multifamily. So sad that occupants lost belongings and need to relocate. Very lucky there were no injuries or fatalities. This could have been much worse. Great job MFD !
