On Tuesday, April 29, the Milton Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of America, will host a lecture featuring Boston Globe gardening columnist and Milton Garden Club member, Carol Stocker. Ms. Stocker will share her thoughts on “The Future of Native Plantings in a Warming Climate” at Blue Hills Trailside Museum, 1904 Canton Avenue (Route 138). A social reception will begin at 9:15 am with the lecture to follow at 10:00 am. Tours of the renovated Blue Hills Gateway Native Plant Garden, which is a “Partners for Plants” program of the Garden Club of America, and the Trailside Rain Garden, created by the Milton Garden Club, will be part of the morning programming following the lecture and tours will run until 4pm.

As a special treat, the Club’s Horticulture Committee will stage an exhibition of the Horticulture portion of a Flower Show, themed “Jewels of Spring.” Samples of flowers currently in bloom in Milton and labeled plants in various growth stages (young buds, unfurling leaves, etc.), and shoots and roots propagated in water will be displayed in recycled glass bottles to symbolize the club’s dedication to conservation. Both the flower samples and the indoor conservation exhibit of the Trailside Rain Garden will be open until 4pm.
The lecture and exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public.
