I think it may be time for a change.
I don’t know the facts about Dave’s time spent in or out of the office. Being a park advocate and frequently involved with Milton’s parks I can say that the parks, athletic facilities, and recreational programs are in significantly better condition than they have been in the past.
For disclosure, I have consulted frequently on capital improvement projects in the parks and have been paid for this work. However, for all these projects Dave has been intensively involved to assure the best possible outcome and use of town funds.
I don’t condone taking advantage of a flexible job schedule but overall I think we’re lucky to have Dave working for us.
I feel the responsibility lies with the Park Commission to explain in detail how his work schedule is supervised. If they can show that he is working a full day which would include any night time work then I have no problem with his work schedule. On the other hand if the Park Commission does not have a supervision plan in effect which can account for his hours then there clearly is a problem that has to be addressed. In the end the Park Commission is accountable to the voters and will have to explain their employment policy on this matter.
