As the Massachusetts Senate debates a number of proposed amendments to the Fiscal Year 2014 budget this week, two measures co-sponsored by Senator Brian A. Joyce have passed that would bring more state funding to Milton.
The first would increase unrestricted general government aid to Milton by $64,242 for a total of $2,782,004, a figure previously agreed to by the House of Representatives. The second would increase the payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) for Milton next year. Milton has previously received $3,915,813 in PILOT payments as a result of legislation authored by Joyce that requires state payments to the town for the loss of potential tax revenue from Blue Hills Reservation land in Milton.
“Returning state tax dollars to Milton takes pressure off local taxpayers, and helps fund our schools, public safety, and public works,” said Joyce.
