The Milton Garden Club (MGC) recently presented Judy Lieberman and Mark Smith of Brookwood Farm with a Garden Club of America (GCA) Club Civic Improvement Commendation honoring them for their vision, dedication to Brookwood Farm and to the sustainable agriculture, outreach and food access that the farm represents.
Situated on a beautiful 70-acre parcel in the Blue Hills, Brookwood Farm is a wonderful model of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Co-founded by Judy Lieberman and Mark Smith, the farm is located on fields owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Granted a single acre in 2006, Mark and Judy set about to create a sustainable model for local farming. Six years later, Brookwood Farm has grown to almost four acres, providing gorgeous, locally grown produce to nearly 200 CSA members as well as to the Milton Farmer’s Market and the Mattapan Farmer’s Market. Brookwood Farm offers educational programs and volunteer opportunities and is committed to food access for underserved communities. Brookwood donates 10% of their harvest to local food banks and food pantries.
We recognize Judy and Mark for their vision and hard work in making this extremely successful CSA a reality in Milton.
