In a 6-1 vote this evening the Library Board of Trustees voted to close the East Milton branch library and open the main branch on Sundays. Two of the trustees were absent; which was slightly surprising given the importance of this session.
The meeting began with a citizens speak in which several residents rose to speak in favor of keeping the library open.
Upon closure of citizens speak, Andrea Gordon introduced the motion to close the East Milton branch and extend the Main Branch hours to Sunday. Barbara Mason spoke in oppostition to closing the branch. She proved to be the sole dissenting vote.
The other members spoke in support of the motion. Janet Evans, current chair, in an emotional voice spoke of her obligation to the town, “that is what I was elected to do.”
