Margaret Eberhardt, President of the Milton Foundation for Education, and fellow member Don Greene announced that the MFE in a funding partnership with the Copeland Foundation is developing a strategic initiative to bring secure wireless capability to all of Milton’s public schools. Once complete, it will put Milton public schools “in the forefront of digital education,” according to Ms. Eberhardt.
The MFE worked in consulation with CIOs from local non-profits including Curry College, Beth Israel Deaconess Milton, and Milton Academy in developing the plan and Mr. Greene called out Bob Pattison who manages technology for the Milton Public Schools for his knowledge and support. Once in place this will be an invaluable enabling technology platform capable of delivering digital content throughout the district across a variety of devices (e.g. computers, tablets, smart phones).
After hearing the announcement, School Committee member Leroy Walker said, “You have had a lasting and profound impact on the education of our children. Thank you. . . thank you. . . thank you.”
In a release put out by the MFE they state that the initiative, which will contribute to the education of Milton students for years to come, was inspired by President Obama’s call to embrace technology-integrated learning. Don Greene, who drove the effort for the MFE said, “The MFE recognized an unmet need and unique opportunity to impact the educational success of Milton’s students well into the future by bringing wireless access to each of our schools.”
He thanked the organizations that assisted and acknowledged Milton is lucky to have such strong community minded businesses. The MFE’s annual gala, this year titled LiveWire, will be held March 9th at the Quincy Marriott. You can buy tickets here.
