The Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton is hosting a blood drive this week end from 9:00 – 2:00 at the Negroni Center. Please consider making a donation. What is a blood donation?
Dr. Darria Gillespie of BID-Milton explains:
Blood cannot be manufactured–the ONLY way to get it for patients in need is through donations from people around the US. Before you donate, the blood donation site will check your temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and ask you some questions about your general health. They will then draw about one pint of blood (the average adult has about 10 pints in their body). The entire process will take about 15 minutes. From that one pint of blood that they draw, they can get multiple types of blood products (platelets, plasma, red blood cells), and each donation can help to save up to three lives.
You can find more about blood donations from Dr. Gillespie here.
Dr. Gillespie urges you to consider donating blood this Saturday, September 1st from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the hospital’s Nangeroni Center. Call 1-800-733-2767 or visit www.redcrossblood.org to make an appointment.
