The Wakefield Estate will host its 4th annual Summer Archaeology Institute over two 2-week sessions in July. The Summer Archaeology Institute is a hands-on archaeological program designed for high school-age youth and conducted at the historic Wakefield Estate in Milton, MA.
In each two-week session, participants will work side by side with doctoral students from Boston University’s Department of Archaeology on an on-going archaeological excavation at the estate. Participants will acquire basic laboratory skills, learn the methods and techniques involved in conducting archaeology, as well as gain experience in identifying artifacts and the behind-the-scenes activities that occur after the fieldwork has been conducted.
The first session of the 2012 institute will be held July 9-20; the second session run July 23-August 3. The program runs Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm. For program details and application, call the Wakefield Estate at 617-333-0924.
