News release from Office of Representative Walter Timilty
Representative Walter F. Timilty (D- 7th Norfolk) is pleased to announce that he is a candidate for re-election. “The residents of Randolph and Milton deserve experienced representation. Every day the people of the 7th Norfolk District are faced with difficult decisions and I am mindful of the responsibility to protect and advocate for their interests and concerns which are critical to the quality of their life.” A member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Representative Timilty also serves on the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs and the Joint Committee on Financial Services. He has served on the board of Road to Responsibility and the Milton Library Foundation Advisory Board. Representative Timilty is a sponsor of numerous Randolph and Milton youth activities including Randolph Youth Soccer, Randolph High School Music Boosters, Milton High Booster Club, Friends of Milton Crew, and both Randolph and Milton Youth Softball and Baseball Leagues. He is also a sponsor of the Randolph Chamber of Commerce Holiday Lighting and Stroll, The Randolph Lions Club, and Friends of the Blue Hills. Representative Timilty is a supporter of the historical Jonathan Belcher House restoration project, The Randolph Women’s Club, The William Pasquantonio Memorial Fund, Boy Scout Troop 47 and Boy Scout Troop 3, and a supporter of the Blue Hills Regional Technical School Football Team.
Representative Timilty has sponsored legislation affecting the residents of the Randolph and Milton including legislation providing for a lease agreement for certain property owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the benefit of the Town, and legislation addressing the use of Neponset Valley Parkway, and that affecting a bridge in Randolph. He has also sponsored consumer protection measures such as prohibiting deceptive practices by providers of cellular phone services, the so called right to repair act, and a measure requiring utility companies to provide customer call centers for service assistance. Other bills which Representative Timilty has co-sponsored are healthcare measures which include patient rights, establishing a commission to draft and recommend improvements in delivery of prescription drugs, and a bill which promotes equity and efficiency in healthcare rates. He has co-sponsored public safety bills including limiting the operation of parking lots for single use events, comprehensive planning for prevention of child abuse, and establishing a task force to examine the Commonwealth’s direct care workforce; and, education bills such as establishing an early reading council to ensure literacy at the elementary school level, and to address the transition of students with disabilities to post secondary education, employment and independent living. Representative Timilty is a co-sponsor of the Updated Bottle Bill and legislation to promote safe alternative to toxic chemicals. He continues to support veterans and those whose family members serve in the Armed Forces in co-sponsoring certain legislation such as the Military Family Relief Fund, designation of veterans license plate, property tax assistance for veterans, and has joined his House colleagues in supporting a resolution for national observance of two minutes of silence on Veterans Day to honor those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces. Representative Timilty has long supported efforts to find and obtain alternative revenue sources such as filing legislation to study private sector advertising on municipal school buses and co-sponsoring legislation for the placement of ads on the Commonwealth websites. Representative Timilty has a 100% attendance record in formal votes and was the recipient of an A- Mass Audubon rating.
