Mike Joyce makes it official – he’s in the running for Town Clerk

The following was submitted by the candidate

Town Meeting Member Mike Joyce has announced his candidacy for the recently vacated Town Clerk’s position. He has collected over 500 nomination signatures and has formed a campaign committee, which is chaired by his brother, Jake.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to serve my hometown in an office that functions as a gateway to Milton. The Town Clerk’s office is often the first point of contact with town government and it must be friendly, accessible, and responsive to the taxpayers,” said Joyce.

Joyce, 21, believes that his youth will be an asset. “I am energetic and could dramatically update Milton’s online presence to make all the Town’s services easy for residents to access. I will make sure that the Clerk’s office is run professionally, courteously, and with great technological efficiency.”

Joyce stated that his priorities as Town Clerk would be to modernize the office by putting more information online and giving residents the ability to pay for documents such as marriage licenses and birth certificates on the Town’s website. He will also make the office more proactive and accessible to citizens, holding night and weekend office hours as well as conducting voter registration drives throughout the Town.

“For several years, I have served as a Milton Town Meeting Member. My sense is that, while there is much that town government does well, there are certainly was in which we can improve our performance and cost effectiveness. We can also improve upon our service to the residents of Milton,” Joyce said.

Joyce studied government and communications at Boston College. He has served in Town Meeting for three years and has coached Milton Little League for five.
