MHS alums Proctor & Reddicks to be recognized for exemplary citizenship and as role models for Milton’s youth

The Milton Foundation for Education (MFE) today announced it will honor Milton High School alumni Elva Proctor (class of 1933) and Lamar Reddicks (class of 1996) for their outstanding community leadership at its thirteenth annual Celebration for Education fundraising event to be held on March 10, 2012 at the Boston Marriott Quincy in Quincy, MA.
Life-long Milton resident and parishioner of First Congregational Church, Elva Proctor, 96, is a registered nurse and graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. A long-time community volunteer, Elva is a board member of the Council on Aging and has been a key contributor to their third-grade pen pal program at Tucker Elementary School. Elva is a gifted watercolor painter who regularly gives her time to teach her craft to others in Milton and the surrounding area.
Milton Academy’s Director of Athletics and Physical Education, Lamar Reddicks, is a long-time Milton resident who was a member of Milton High School’s 1996 state championship basketball team. Prior to joining Milton Academy, Lamar spent eight years coaching at the collegiate level, working with both the Harvard and Boston University men’s teams. In addition, Lamar holds the always popular basketball clinics and camps for elementary and middle school children.
“We are pleased to recognize the impact of two outstanding Milton citizens at our annual Celebration for Education next week,” said Meg Kaster. “Elva Proctor has had a profound influence in shaping our community and on the Milton Foundation for Education. Her positive attitude is infectious and her tenacity and spirit is admired by many. Elva’s citizenship is an example to us all.”
Continued Meg: “Lamar Reddicks is the true embodiment of a role model and mentor to the youth of our community. He has made a large impacton the children of Milton, who are consistently inspired and motivated by his instruction.”
The MFE has also chosen the following Honorary Event Chairs; Mr. and Mrs. Keith McDermott, Mr. Dick Renehan, Esq., Dr. and Mrs. Alan Rosmarin, and Mrs. Barbara Sullivan.
The Celebration for Education, which takes place on Saturday, March 10, 2012, is hosted by the Milton Foundation for Education, currently celebrating its sixteenth year supporting Milton’s public schools. Funds raised from the Celebration for Education are allocated directly to each of Milton’s public schools, with money raised this year funding literacy and “hands on science” education initiatives. Tickets to the event, with the theme “Big Beach Ball” can be purchased online via the Milton Foundation for Education website. There are no tickets sold at the door.
