Forbes House kicks off 2nd season of docent training

FHM docents visit the Massachusetts Historical Society

The Forbes House Museum will begin its second season of docent training on Thursday, 22 September 2011 at 1pm. The meeting, which will include a gallery lesson on China Trade merchant, Thomas Tunno Forbes (1802- 1829), is open to anyone considering a position as tour guide, gallery attendant, greeter for special events, and/or general office and reception assistant.

The meeting will begin with a look at the fall season, which will feature a number of docent field trips, and a brief critique of summer events and programs.

For the first time this fall, the Dorothy Murray Forbes Docent Program will begin with the assistance of two new FHM staff people, Rebecca Wright, Assistant to the Director, and Joann Sacco, Community Relations Coordinator.

Here’s a list of some of the opportunities waiting for you as a FHM volunteer docent in September 2011:

September 22; 1-2:30pm
The Docent Kick Off Meeting – Robin and I will be outlining the second season of the Dorothy Murray Forbes Docent program, which will include a number of field trips. Our lesson will be on Thomas Tunno Forbes, the Captain’s older brother.

September 24; 1-4pm
Smithsonian Museum Day; members of the Smithsonian Instiution can download a free admission pass from the Smithsonian website, then visit the FHm for free. Docents are needed!

September 28; 9am- 11:30am
We ask our docents to join us for Coffee Hour at Fuller Village (both Brush Hill and Blue Hill residences), as we present docent/volunteer opportunities available at FHM.

September 28
Lower Mills Merchants Association season kick off meeting at FHM at 6pm; Please join us to meet/greet merchants in our community.
