A brand-new safety course is being offered to Milton High School students this spring with the goal of preventing car crashes by teenage drivers.
“Distractology 101” — a program sponsored by Arbella Insurance and Atlantic Insurance Group Agency of Milton — is a free training program designed to educate new drivers on the dangers of distracted driving.
Using an innovative driving simulator, students will get real hands-on experience on how cell phones, radios, GPS devices and even conversations can interfere with a driver’s ability to concentrate behind the wheel.
The Distractology Mobile Simulator will be parked in the Main Entrance parking lot at Milton High School for the entire week of April 11-15.
To participate, students must either be enrolled in Mr. Bowes’ AP Psych course or have taken Drivers Ed at Milton High School. Students must see Mrs. Cahill or Mrs. Spinelli in guidance to sign up. Participants must present a valid driver’s license or permit at time of registering.
The training has two parts. First is a 45 minute hands-on experience behind the wheel of a simulator console. Simulator sessions will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm throughout the week of April 11-15. After April vacation, participants will participate in a web-based reinforcement session. Although time will not allow all interested students to complete the simulator portion of the training, all Milton High School students are invited to participate in the online reinforcement training. For more information, please contact Mrs. Cahill at kcahill@miltonps.org or call 617-696-4470 ext. 552
A representative from Arbella Insurance will be with the van for the entire week and oversee all simulations. To arrange photos of the van and/or student drivers, please contact Moira Downes at 617-698-6584 or moiradownes@comcast.net
