NOTE: The following comes from the office of State Senator Brian A. Joyce. You can find Milton district maps and links to the respective representatives here.
I am pleased to announce that the Special Redistricting Commission has scheduled two public hearings for the South Shore region. Thirteen redistricting hearings in all are being held across the state, to represent each region. The South Shore’s hearings will be held in Quincy and Brockton.
- The first hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 2nd at Massasoit Community College in Brockton.
- The second hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 6th at Quincy High School.
Every ten years when the U.S. Census figures are released, Massachusetts goes through a redistricting process, where boundaries are readjusted by a redistricting commission to reflect the most current Census data. Redistricting is a very important process because it ensures that every citizen of the Commonwealth is adequately represented, and it allows legislative districts to adapt to the changing population within them.
The decisions made by the Special Redistricting Commission may greatly impact your town. You may attend these public hearings and give your views to the commission. For more information on the hearings, or to find district maps and Census data, please go to www.malegislature.gov/redistricting
Warmest regards,
Brian
