Following are pictures of the black oak that at the moment is a the middle of the discussion of the Hendries property development. The question is: should it stay or should it go?
The current proposal for redeveloping the property with a mixed use building of commercial space and condominiums calls for removing the tree. The Planning Board is inclined to have the tree stay. Pete Jackson is strongly in favor of keeping the tree as it is a remarkable specimen, possibly one of the largest in the state. He expressed surprise that the developer had not factored it into the plan. That said, the health of the tree is in question. The board is likely going to retain an arborist to give an independent assessment of the tree’s condition.
