Earlier this week the Milton Public Schools hosted its own version of a popular cooking show with its own in-house “Iron Chef Jr.” competition. The event was designed to expose students to new and exciting food choices. Twenty elementary school students, divided into six teams, were joined by local chefs to prepare a meal from a “secret basket” of ingredients.

The Traffic Commission met yesterday morning, and two of their agenda items concerned Lodge Street. The first was a continuation of a discussion regarding increased traffic and the resident concerns that raised. The second was an explanation by Marvin Gordon of his decision to gift property to Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills for construction of a synagogue with access of Lodge Street. He specifically addressed the reasons for putting access to the proposed temple off Lodge Street rather than Gun Hill Street.

The world series begins tonight and if we learned anything – it is to stay awake and pay attention. Because no matter how late it gets, no matter how dire the score, with this Red Sox team – anything can happen. Naturally, the Board of Selectmen, who are reportedly growing beards in solidarity with the team, scheduled a meeting for this evening to discuss a report from the Department of Revenue. Nice timing.

The Oscar & Hammerstein musical sensation South Pacific will be performed at Milton High School. This ever popular musical won 10 Tony Awards and features songs such as “Bali Ha’i”, “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair”, “Some Enchanted Evening”, “There Is Nothing Like a Dame.”
The Fontbonne Academy Cross Country Team ran in the Tufts 10K race on Monday, October 14, under the guidance of their coach, Abby Young. The team has included this race into their fall competition schedule for the past two years; the field is all women and the annual race raises funds for healthcare organizations.
Buddy is a 4 year old neutered male domestic medium hair. He is extremely friendly to people, and will call his greetings from the window to visitors outside. Buddy doesn’t like other cats and doesn’t “show well” on a quick visit to our crowded cat room. Please come visit the Milton Animal League, sit with Buddy for a while. A change pending at the Milton Public Library has taken place ahead of schedule. The entrance and exits of the Milton Public Library have been reversed in an effort to cut down on the number of accidents that have occurred over the last couple years. The signs directing traffic are clear. Please use caution. Note that there is also parking available on Canton Avenue extending west from the library.

Yesterday was an amazing day and a first for Milton. Three crews from Milton High School competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta, the world’s premier rowing event. They were entered in the Youth Fours Men, the Youth Fours Women, and the Youth Eights Men. (click on image for large view)
