Milton church bell to chime 350 times to help fight global warming

The Church of Our Saviour in Milton will ring its bell 350 times Sunday morning, chiming in its support for a worldwide effort to combat global warming.

The church is among about three dozen in New England that have signed up at 350.org, an action group that says it is named for the “most important number on the planet.” (read full story)

Milton spring sports in jeopardy

Spring sports teams could be in jeopardy if fundraising to cover part of the cost of the programs falls short.

Clubs at Milton High School and the middle school could also be canceled if fees paid by participants don’t cover the cost. (read full story)

Women lose weight, gain friends at women-only gym

Stephanie Barresi has lost 60 pounds over the past eight years while gaining friends, fitness and health. She’s done so by working out at Fitness Unlimited, a women-only gym in Milton that she says offered her a sense of belonging. (read full story)

Theater preview: ‘Rumors’ by Milton Players

Loves, laughs and lies in upper Manhattan high society. That’s what was on Neil Simon’s mind – along with some absurdity and intrigue – when he brought “Rumors” to Broadway in 1988.

Simon’s farce ran for 535 performances over two years, first at the Broadhurst Theatre, then transferring to the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. (read the full story)

Milton children work on new mural for library

Painted on some of the tiles were scenes from a favorite story, such as “The Little Engine That Could,” or from the Harry Potter series. Other tiles depicted favorite sports or activities. One showed a tropical beach scene.

And there was one with a portrait of President-elect Barack Obama.

Milton guarding against possible state aid loss

The warrant committee wants the four largest departments to hold back portions of their budgets in the event of a cut in state aid.

Warrant committee Chairman Thomas Hurley said the plan would allow the town to weather a 10 percent cut in state aid, which would cost the town nearly $1 million.

Milton man accused of assault by coffee

A Milton man faces charges of assault after allegedly throwing a cup of coffee at a person.

Boston police officers were monitoring traffic near Union and North streets at about 4:25 p.m. Saturday when Robert Nagle, 35, walked into the crosswalk and his path was blocked by a car.
