Several weeks ago the school administration informed parents that it was changing its policy regarding the siblings of incoming first graders as it relates to neighborhood schools and program (ie French or English) registration. Parents were told that siblings of students already in a school would no longer be grandfathered into the same school. All students would enter a lottery should a program be oversubscribed. It has reversed that decision. The original policy is back in effect. Students with a sibling already in a neighborhood school will be grandfathered into that same school independent of program they choose.

Dropkicks’ ‘Style’ references Milton’s own – Chief Wells
Milton native, favorite rocker, and member of the Dropkick Murphy’s has put out a new song with his band mates. It is titled Going Out in Style and is on a new album by the same name. It references a variety of local Boston personalities and places, including Milton’s own Chief Wells.

Schools to save head count; WC adds ~$640K back to budget
In a recent conversation School Committee member Denis Keohane stated that the school committee would be receiving an increase of approximately $640,000 to the level service budget they submitted to the Warrant Committee. An amount that will restore a number of head count that were to be cut.

Turbine continues to cause turbulence
Milton’s proposal to construct a wind turbine on town own land leased to Quarry Hills, the operators of the Granite Link golf course, is continuing to meet with opposition. Most recently the Quincy City Council unanimously passed a resolution, which will be sent to the Milton Selectmen, objecting to the construction of the turbine. But that’s not all.
Friends of Milton Crew raise $25,000 in support of MHS rowing team
The Friends of Milton Crew held a fundraiser at Fuller Village that exceeded their expectations.
The group, which formed to establish a rowing team at Milton High, has raised $25,000, an amount that will enable them to qualify for a recently awarded 2:1 matching grant from the DCR.
