Mattapan trolley starts up again

The rickety orange streetcars of the Mattapan trolley line began rolling down the tracks for the first time in more than three weeks Monday morning after a massive effort to clear snow from a series of four unrelenting winter storms. (Read the full story here.)

The Larsen home is providing some shelter from teh storm to their feathered friends. Mr. Larsen is not sure why  Larry, Lady Bird, Tweedy & Little Big Bird chose to tough it out with the rest of us. But encourages all to hang in there. Spring will be here soon.

Open House – Milton Crew Information Nights

Purim events at Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills

The festive Jewish holiday of Purim will be celebrated at Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills (formerly Temples Shalom of Milton and Beth El of Quincy) this year with two special events in early March.
On Sunday morning, March 1st, the synagogue’s Rabbi Weistrop Religious School will sponsor its Annual Purim Carnival from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Cunningham Hall, 75 Edge Hill Road in Milton.

Upcoming events at the MPL: Cycling craze, Friday book chat & more

During the month of March, the Milton Public Library is offering a lot of fun programs for adults and families. Most events will be held in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the library.

On Sunday, March lst at 2 PM there will be an author talk with Lorenz J. Finison about his book called Boston’s Cycling Craze, 1880-1900: A Story of Race, Sport, and Society.

Meeting: Board of Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting on Tuesday, 2/24, in the Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall at 7:00PM. The agenda includes but is not limited to a discussion of the FY16 budget, capital needs recommendations, and a public safety update. You can find the full agenda here.

Yesterday, the Boston Public Library held a ribbon cutting for the first phase of the library’s redesign. The children’s room, teen space, and nonfiction collections received a complete makeover. Milton resident Sindu Meier, who was the project manager for the architecural firm William Rawn Associates, which led the design effort, was on hand to celebrate the event. WBUR described the new space as “sleek, colorful, mod, with lots of sunlight streaming in.”

Frustrated, official quits Milton panel

The Boston Globe has coverage of Ed Duffy’s resignation from the Milton Planning Board:

Longtime Milton Planning Board member Edward Duffy has resigned from the board, two months before his term was due to expire.

“I had enough of it,” Duffy said last week about his Feb. 12 surprise announcement. He said he was frustrated by the board’s failure to deal with what he perceived as potential traffic problems in East Milton from a proposed new restaurant on Adams Street. “It’s going to be wild,” he said.
