Beaches in South Boston and East Boston had significantly less bacteria in 2013 than years past, while improper sewage hookups and other pollutants continue to mar the waters at Lynn, Swampscott, Dorchester and Quincy swimming spots, according to Save the Harbor Save the Bay’s third annual report card. Tropical Storm Arthur has forced a change in plans for this year’s July 4th celebration at the Hatch Shell. The concert will be held tomorrow July 3rd. Typically that is a rehearsal but given concerns of officials with the storm and the fact that the musicians will be on hand already it is full speed ahead. You can find Boston Globe coverage here. At yeterday’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen Town Clerk Susan Galvin swore in 4 new officers to the Milton Police Department. These 4 matriculated out of a program run by the Boston Police Department. It isn’t easy – about a hundred cadets went in and under 70 came out. Congratulations to Patrick Nee, Ryan O’Rourke, John Larson, and Travis Weekes.

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton (BID-Milton) recently opened a new Clinical Decision Unit for the medical management of patients whose treatment and diagnosis are anticipated to take approximately 24 hours and are thus considered outpatient in nature. The CDU was opened in a newly refurbished 15-bed area, part of the hospital’s 2North Nursing Unit.
At a graduation ceremony held June 24th, Milton Town Planner, Bill Clark, was awarded a Certificate in Local Government Leadership & Management from the Moakley Center for Public Management.

Quincy Police are hoping to get some help in identifying the body of a woman that was found by a passerby in the water on Sunday morning.
CBS Boston reported that “an adult black woman” was found in the water near Sea Street. She was wearing a black bathing suit with a terry cloth cover over it, and investigators said there were no signs of foul play.
The Boston Globe published a profile of Milton resident John Fish, one of the primary boosters for Boston making an Olympic bid. The Globe reports: “He seems now an unstoppable force in town, a power almost without peer in construction, commerce, and charity, and the engine behind an idea that divides the city but which he thinks could define it — the 2024 Olympic bid.” You can find the article here.
