Hope as Hendries day of reckoning approaches

Tonight the Board of Selectmen will be providing an update on the status of the development of the Hendries property. Let’s hope the board speaks with a single strong voice that is committed to a development they believe to be in the best interests of the town and that they pledge to make their best efforts to achieve that. We believe that the best development would be a mixed-use building of commercial and residential units, and we hope they agree.

Milton officials take on roar of Logan’s jets

Residents south of Boston have griped for the past year and a half about the house-rattling, sleep-depriving, and conversation-ending noise from low-flying jets. Citizens groups have been formed; legislators have gotten involved; town officials have written to aviation officials pleading for guidance. (Read the full story here.)

Reminder: Marathon Mystery Movies at The Milton Library for all ages

It’s an all-day marathon of mystery movies on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton. The free event is part of the Milton Reads project to get the entire community reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes or one of its stories, such as “The Speckled Band.”

“Best of Boston” Winner to Cater Dinner at the Top of Great Blue

As part of its 35th year celebration, the Friends of the Blue Hills will offer a raffle for a dinner at the top of the Blue Hills Observatory catered by Steel & Rye which recently won the prestigious “Best of Boston” award from Boston Magazine. Acclaimed chef Chris Parsons will prepare the dinner for six.

Meeting: Board of Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting in the Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall on Tuesday, August 19th at 6:30pm. The agenda includes but is not limited to a discussion to continue the building permits at 2 Adams Street, Chapter 139 Section 1 hearing on parcel between 131 Eliot and 0 Central Ave (Hendries), discussion with Traffic Commission re: temporary restriction on Eliot Street at Blue Hills Parkway.

DCR Traffic Advisory: Neponset Valley Parkway – Gas Main Replacement

Beginning Monday, August 18, 2014, from 9:30 p.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m., the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close the right lane southbound along the Neponset Valley Parkway, between Milton Street and Chesterfield Street.  The closure is being made to assist with a gas main replacement project, and will continue through Friday, August 23, 2014.
