Bob Sweeney
Bob Sweeney formally announced that he is in the running for a seat on the Milton Board of Selectmen.
Three candidates filed papers for the seat by the deadline. In addition to Mr. Sweeney, there is the incumbent, Kathy Fagan, and Steve Frezzetti of Granite Avenue.

There are three levels of commendation that may be conferred on officers by the Chief of Police. They are Excellence in Police Service, Diligence to Duty, and Extraordinary Police Action. We acknowledged three officers in the previous post. With respect and admiration, here are two more:

Registration is now open for Milton National Litte League but it closes soon! March 15th is the deadline for signing up.
Milton National Little League welcomes players aged 6 to 12 (must be 6 by April 30, 2010) who live west of Randolph Avenue in Milton, Massachusetts. Those residing east of Randolph Avenue play in Milton American LL

Property hot spots driving several town elections.
There are big contests brewing for Board of Selectmen, School Committee & Planning Board and there are major traffic jams for candidates for Town Meeting in Precincts 1 & 9.
In more than one of these races two town properties are a driving force. Those properties are the Temple Shalom site and the Governor Stoughton Town Farm off Canton Avenue where the Milton Animal League is located.
Milton was among 181 state municipalities that received an e-Government Award for transparency from Common Cause. This is awarded to “Municipalities who post their governing body’s minutes and an agenda, their budget, their bylaws, and, if applicable, their town meeting warrant . . . ” You can read the press release here.
There will be some important staff retiring from the Milton Public Schools at the end of this school year. They include Jeff Rubin who directs the Special Ed program and Dr. Korshun, the Principal of Glover. There is Dr. Ajamian who has been with the MHS math dept since Euclid’s time.

Cheryl Tougias
It appears that Ed Duffy who is up for re-election to the Planning Board will not be running an uncontested race. Cheryl Tougias, of 660 Canton Ave, has filed papers with the Town Clerk to be placed on the ballot for a seat on the Milton Planning Board.
Tougias is no stranger to the Planning Board. She was one of 4 at large members appointed to the Temple Advisory Committee by the Planning Board. The Advisory Committee was tasked with assisting in the identification and evaluation of options relative to the potential redevelopment/rezoning of the Temple Shalom property.
