The Cunningham School has a new principal! Dr. Karen Spaulding will take the reins as of July 1st.
Spaulding, who has been with the Milton Public Schools since 2008, arrives at the Cunningham via the Pierce Middle School where she is currently the Assistant Principal.
Dr. Spaulding has taught in middle schools in Hudson, N.H. and Cambridge and was Acting Principal of the Asa P. Morse Elementary School in Cambridge before coming to Pierce. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at both Lesley University and Fitchburg State College.
The choice of Dr. Spaulding has been greeted warmly.
About her appointment, Superintendent Gormley said, “Dr. Spaulding will be a strong instructional leader of the Cunningham Elementary School. Her appointment is a great-news story for the Milton Public Schools and the Cunningham students, staff, parents and guardians.”
“We are thrilled and excited that she will be our new principal at Cunningham,” said School Committee Chair Lynda-Lee Sheridan. “Dr. Spaulding has proven herself to be a strong academic leader and we look forward to working with her in her new role.”
Dr. Spaulding earned her bachelor’s degree in Middle School Math/Science Education from Lesley College in Cambridge; her master’s degree in Middle School Science Education from Simmons College in Boston; and her doctoral degree from UMass/Boston’s Leadership in Urban Schools’ Doctoral Program.
She will replacing principal Christine Gerber, who will be moving to a new job in the Cambridge Public Schools. Welcome to Cunningham Dr. Spaulding!
