Master Plan question: How to manage increased school enrollments

Following is the second in a series of weekly questions from the Master Plan Committee. Your input is valued. Please post a comment (full names required) or send an email to the committee.

What are your thoughts about whether and how our school facilities could be expanded to accommodate higher enrollments?

Information boards are on display at Town Hall and the Milton Public Library.

The first question in the series:

What do you think the Town should do to make parking more efficient and to increase its availability?

You can learn more about this initiative of the Master Plan here.

I don’t think we’ve been given enough information to assess whether we need to expand school facilities. From the Master Plan meetings, we expect an increase number in our older population as well as an increase number of younger families. Will this balance out to ‘no expansion necessary’? We should be able to predict increase school facilities needs but as far as I know that hasn’t been done. More numbers please.

Thank you for your comment, Cindy!

We’ll be providing all comments and questions posted in response to the question of the week to our consultant team as they write the draft master plan. We are looking for ideas that the consultant team can translate to strategies and action steps, but questions are also helpful!

While Frank is only printing the question of the week, I hope you and everyone else who is interested can stop by the Library and Town Hall to read the context surrounding each questions. You’ll find some of the information you are looking for on the boards on display, thoughts from other Milton residents about what they want, and some of the goals and related strategies that have been identified by the consultant team during the meetings this spring.

I’ll ask the consultant team to address the questions we collect at our public forum at the end of September.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts!
