The school department has cut the following full time equivalents from their staff:
For a total of 13 FTEs and a savings of $549,000.
The high school will lose 2.5 FTEs, Pierce will lose 1.5 FTEs and the elementary schools will lose 9 FTEs. You can find the detailed breakdown from the school department here.
Milton resident and mountain bike enthusiast Joe Sloane will be giving presentations at the upcoming opening celebration a new LL Bean store in Dedham.
The new L.L.Bean, one of the anchor stores at the new Legacy Place (web site here) is opening July 24th and will hold events all that week end (L.L.Bean web site here).
Joe will be giving a presentation “Great Local Mountain Bike Rides” every half hour from 7:00 – 9:00pm on Friday, July 24th. Sloane is a member of the New England Mountain Biking Association. He was awarded the L.L.Bean outdoor hero award last year for his dedication to preserving the outdoors. Joe was instrumental in establishing the Trailwatch program, a program that promotes safe and cooperative trail use at the Blue Hills. (read more here.)

Trailing by four runs, Milton Post 114 rallied for a 5-4 triumph over Cohasset Post 118 in American Legion District 6 East action Thursday.
Down 4-0, Milton (15-2) came back with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. Brian Besinger knocked in the winning run in the seventh inning with his third hit and third RBI of the game. (Read the full story here.)

Kathy Fagan can run a campaign. Make no mistake about that.

Fagan moved to Milton 12 years ago. She and her husband have 2 children. One, their son, is about to enter the Pierce Middle School. The younger one, a daughter, is at the Tucker elementary school. Fagan elected to take “early retirement” when her daughter was born; leaving her law practice of 15 years to focus on family needs.
She did not, however, retire from public service. She joined the Friends of the Library and then ran for Library Trustee. She was elected and was serving as chair when the initiative to renovate the main branch got underway. “We ran it like a campaign. We went precinct to precinct.”
When James Mullen came up for re-election, several groups approached her about running for the office of Selectman. She agreed. “You can only throw popcorn at the TV screen for so long,” she explains as one’s motivation for getting involved in civic affairs. Fagan ran a disciplined, methodical campaign, met a lot of people, and won.
Fagan’s term is up in April, 2010. Currently, she is planning to run for re-election. However, Ms. Fagan will carefully weigh family considerations before making a final decision.

It isn’t a big parish; it’s isn’t a burgeoning parish. But every day as Sheila Farley walks to her parish, St. Pius Tenth Parish in Milton, to open its doors she knows it is her parish.

Rachel L. Kleiman-Wexler is Milton Hospital’s new pharmacy director.
Kleiman-Wexler has more than 30 years of professional experience. Her career began with a pharmacy internship in Norway; most recently, she was pharmacy director at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster. (Read the full story here.)

The Wharf Street Riverfront Grill which is located in the bottom floor of 88 Wharf Street, off Adams Street in Milton Village has postponed its opening.
Originally scheduled to open today, a notice in the window indicates they hope to open in the near future but no fixed date has been set.

Like most hospitals, Milton Hospital has had a long history of hosting programs to help the communities it serves.
But something changed in the past six months. The institution, according to spokesman Jason Bouffard, sought input from school officials in Milton and Randolph to find out what they wanted their local hospital to do for them. (Read the full story here.)
