Milton cracker company going strong since 1801

Even before Thanksgiving became a national holiday in 1863, New Englanders were crushing crackers as a base for turkey stuffing. This tradition can be traced back, at least in part, to the G.H. Bent Co., which still bakes and sells old-fashioned crackers in a three-story clapboard building listed with the National Register of Historic Places. (Read the full story here.)
Veterans Day 2012

Yesterday Milton residents gathered on the green in front of Town Hall to pay tribute to and acknowledge the sacrifice of our veterans. MHS graduate and Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Stanton was the featured speaker. Colonel Stanton, who asked rhetorically why service personnel enlist? “To protect we the people.”

Milton Reads! 2012’s final chapter to feature U.S. Atty Carmen Ortiz

The culminating event of Milton Reads! 2012, the Milton Public Library’s town-wide read of To Kill a Mockingbird, will be an evening of reflection, song, and celebration. This event promises to be inspiring and uplifting. It takes place Thursday, November 15th, at First Parish Church, 535 Canton Ave., Milton, at 7 P.M. The event is free.

Turkey Trot
The annual Turkey Trot, a 3.2 mile run/walk/bike ride that begins and ends at Turners Pond will take place again this year. You can drop donations in a jar in the parking lot. The proceeds go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Milton resident Theresa Haley. It starts at 8:00am so you have plenty of time to get back and stuff the bird,
Mtg Notes: School Committee 11.07.12 (2) – After-school sports and STEM @ Pierce; MCAS review

At the 11/7 session of the school committee Dr. Karen Spaulding and Asst Superintedent John Phelan announced two new programs for the Pierce Middle School: an after-school sports program and a STEM enrichment course. Neither will impose a cost on the public.

Yesterday afternoon the public got a rare musical treat at the Milton Public Library. The Boston Guitar Orchestra performed a variety of works under the direction of Scott Borg, an Australian native and renowned guitarist. It was a great example of the innovative and varied programming provided under the direction of Jean Hlady and the generous sponsorship of the Friends of the Library.
