Genetic Disorders topic at Temple Shalom

Dr. Jodi Hoffman, geneticist at Tufts Medical Center, will be the guest speaker at the next Temple Shalom of Milton Brunch Speaker Series on Sunday, Jan 6th, at the Pierce Middle School at 10:15 AM. Dr. Hoffman’s topic will be “What’s Hiding in Your Genes?” a discussion of the genetic disorders that can be carried by healthy Ashkenazi (Eastern and Central European) Jews.

50% hike sought for road repairs in Massachusetts

The Patriot Ledger has an article on the Massachusetts Municipal Association pressuring state government to increase the amount allocated for maintaining local roads. This would come as good news to Milton which has a number of jaw jangling drives, not the lease of which is Central Avenue between Eliot and Brook. The deplorable condition of Milton streets was raised at a recent Selectmen’s meeting by Town Meeting Member Steve Morash who offered to build community support for improved streets. Congratulations to The Plate!

The Plate was cited in last Sunday’s Boston Globe Magazine as one of the best new restaurants in the Boston area. The citation read in part, “You might wish this little neighborhood cafe were within walking distance, but you’ll travel miles for its offerings.” But I can walk (and do) and it’s great. Also , the Globe food section today published proprietor Suzanne Lombardi’s recipe for molasses-clove cookies. You can find it here.

Deputy Chief Charles Paris said Tuesday morning that a short, slender female in her mid-30s passed a note to a teller at the branch at 40 Adams St. around noon. (Read the full story here.)
