Faces of Homelessness to Speak in Milton

The Common Hearth series at First Parish in Milton continues on January 23rd with a presentation by the Massachusetts Faces of Homelessness Speakers’ Bureau. The program begins at 7pm and will feature currently and formerly homeless speakers, as well as a facilitator from the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance.

A funeral Mass was held on Jan. 9 at Most Precious Blood Church, Dover, Mass., for former University Librarian Thomas F. O’Connell ’50, who oversaw the most dramatic expansion of Boston College’s library facilities in the school’s history. Mr. O’Connell, who was a resident of Milton, Mass., died Jan. 3. Effective immediately, the right turn on red from Adams Street onto Granite Avenue is now PROHIBITED per the Milton Police Department. A flashing sign board will be placed at this intersection to notify drivers of the change. Please be vigilant of pedestrians in the roadway when driving in the East Milton Area.
Master Plan Committee prepares for first public forum
The Master Plan Committee (MPC) met last night to review the results of a survey circulated internally to the committee, the Planning Board, and the Board of Selectmen (BoS). Two members of the Planning Board, two members of the BoS, and two members of the MPC did not return the survey. Brian Groth of Brown Walker Planners reviewed the results received with the committee. The findings included but were not limited to the following:
Mayor Menino declares public health emergency in Boston because of flu outbreak

Mayor Thomas M. Menino declared a public health emergency Wednesday morning because of the expanding flu outbreak. Health care centers across the city will be offering free vaccines to anyone who hasn’t yet been immunized. The city has 700 confirmed cases of flu so and four flu-related deaths. Last year Boston had only 70 confirmed cases. (Read the full story here.)
