Master Plan Committee prepares for first public forum

The Master Plan Committee (MPC) met last night to review the results of a survey circulated internally to the committee, the Planning Board, and the Board of Selectmen (BoS). Two members of the Planning Board, two members of the BoS, and two members of the MPC did not return the survey. Brian Groth of Brown Walker Planners reviewed the results received with the committee. The findings included but were not limited to the following:

  • there are a “plethora” of transportation options but they are not well connected.
  • there is concern about traffic, particularly during rush hour, and parking availability.
  • respondents sought a better mix of retail businesses in commercial areas
  • there was consensus that recreational areas could be improved.
  • the topic on which there was the greatest disagreement was housing. Some thought the current mix was insufficient to meet needs of young families and empty nesters, others thought the mix sufficient.

The committee discussed outreach efforts which will include notices to media outlets, web and social media outreach (see links below), neighborhood associations and collateral at town hall and the library.

The first of three public forums will take place at the Tucker School on January 26th from 9:00 – 12:00. Residents will be asked for their input on what should be preserved and what might be changed regarding the town in terms of commercial offerings, open space and recreation, and housing. As one committee member put it: What would you like to do that today you cannot? How can we make life in Milton better?
