How federal budget cuts could affect Massachusetts

Education and the military would take among the biggest hits in Massachusetts from automatic cuts to the federal budget set to take hold this week, according to a report the White House issued Sunday as it seeks to avoid the impending economic fallout. (Read the full story here.)

Preservation in Milton topic for 2nd Stone Soup on Feb. 28

The Wakefield Estate’s second “Winter Stone Soup” gathering will feature remarks by Alex Whiteside, chair of the Milton Planning Board and head of an effort to restore the Broderick Stables located at the State Police Headquarters on Hillside Street. Alex is spearheading a group of interested volunteers to explore means of restoring this 100 year-old historic building.

Art at the Milton Public Library

During the month of February, the Milton Public Library, located at 476 Canton Avenue, has a display in the Wotiz Gallery of paintings by local artist Brian Queally.  His work includes images of local scenery around Milton and the area, and of Ireland.  Mr. Queally is a Milton native, and studied painting at the Art Institute of Boston and at Mass. College of Art.

Re: the Town Administrator search, are we doing the best we can?

Monday night we may have a new Town Administrator. We need one, but have we done everything possible up to this point to ensure a good result? Maybe not. There is still an opportunity to be more diligent about these candidates.  The need to fill the void is real; however, if none of these candidates is the right one, the Selectmen should not be afraid to reopen the search.
