Senator Joyce announces improvements to Houghton’s recreational fields

Senator Joyce had recently secured funding to improve the quality of ball fields at Houghton’s Pond. That was great for baseball and softball players but the folks in Milton that manage traveling soccer and lacrosse teams felt left out.

In listening to their concerns Senator Joyce revisited the project scope. The work to be done has been extended to include improvements to the soccer and lacrosse fields used by Milton’s youth leagues as well as all three ball fields.

“We are so thankful that the almost 800 children enrolled in Milton Travel Soccer will be playing on safe, well groomed fields,” said Margaret Carels, league secretary and parent of two young soccer players. “We asked Brian for help and he delivered.”

The renovations have already started. They include:

  • the building of a premier ball field that may be used by the town’s softball, little league and 11 and 12 year old youth players, with team areas, bullpens, safety fencing and spectator bleachers
  • a drinking fountain
  • accessible pedestrian paths
  • over 40 deciduous trees will be planted, along with 10 evergreens and 120 shrubs
  • vehicular circulation and parking will be significantly improved, and a drop-off area added
  • the entire area will be irrigated
  • the fields used for soccer will be leveled, topsoil added and fresh grass planted
