Safety remains the priority at MHS – forum this evening at 7:30

Early this afternoon police are stationed at the entrances of Milton High School again this afternoon as a Channel 5 news copter cirlces overhead.

We spoke with an officer stationed at the Blue Hill Parkway entrance who said the school is not locked down and people are free to come and go; but that they are checking out a couple things.

Students need to be checked in or out by a parent.

The school issued a reverse 911 call to parents at about 2:25pm informing them that additional rounds of ammunition had been found but that a lock down was not in force.

Following is an email Dr. Drottar sent to MHS parents aand guardians:

Dear Parents/ Guardians:

Today, Thursday, April 15, 2010, Milton Police officers were called to Milton High School because ammunition was found.  Police secured the area to ensure the safety of the students.  The police were able to accomplish this goal without a lock-down.  As part of the ongoing investigation the Milton Police, in conjunction with School Administration interviewed students, searched cars, and continued to pursue leads to bring closure to this past week’s events.

We appreciate the patience of the students, staff and parents as we work through this process and continue to provide a safe school experience for your child.

I would like to remind you that Milton Police Chief Richard Wells and I will host a forum tonight at 7:30 PM in the High School Auditorium to discuss this week’s events and answer parent questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. John Drottar
Principal
Milton High School
