This is the fourth and last in a series of posts that recognize officers of the Milton Police Department who have been officially commended for their service over the past couple of years. (Here are Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3). There are three levels of commendation that may be conferred on officers by the Chief of Police. They are Excellence in Police Service, Diligence to Duty, and Extraordinary Police Action. We acknowledged two officers in the previous post. With respect and admiration, here is one more:
Lieutenant John King received the department’s highest commendation for “Extraordinary Police Action” on November 21, 2007. King was on duty in the Milton Village vicinity when an armed robbery occurred at the Sunoco station on River Street. King observed an unmarked police vehicle and plain clothes Boston officers with guns drawn and shields displayed. An officer indicated to King the direction in which the suspect fled.
Lt. King spotted the suspect who was running away from the scene. Lt. King confronted the suspect who refused to drop his weapon. King eventually worked his way the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, and radioed for assistance. The money stolen was recovered and the suspect was arrested in connection with a series of robberies that occurred in 2001.
His commendation, signed by Chief Wells, reads in part:
“The actions of Lt. King in the observation, detection, and apprehension of this armed and wanted felon exemplify the highest degree of professionalism by a member of the Milton Police Department. His total regard for the safety of the public and fellow police officers in affecting this arrest, while placing his own life in jeopardy, is to be commended.”
Congratulations to all the officers for the commendations they received and thanks to the entire police department for their service to the town.
