Don’t miss an 18 year tradition for the holidays with the Forbes House Museum’s 18th annual Holiday House Tour scheduled for Sunday, December 13th from 1 – 4 p.m. Generous home owners will graciously deck their halls to benefit the Museum. Each year since 1991 the FHM has selected outstanding homes and worked with home owners to showcase holiday décor and to celebrate the architectural diversity of private residences and buildings throughout the town and the 2009 tour is no exception. A delightful selection of private homes in diverse design and style will be decorated in their holiday finest for you to tour. Come to be inspired, come to be nostalgic, come to enjoy the Fontebonne Jazz Choir or the Dancing Deer goodies. What ever your motivation, just come out on the 13th of December to support the FHM and to be a part of the tradition!
You may choose from two transportation options. If you would like to travel in the charm and comfort of an Old Town Trolley, at no additional cost, you will need to arrive at 303 Adams St. (Fontebonne Academy) between 12:15 and 12:45. All the trolleys will depart promptly at 1 p.m. and are available on a first-come, first-seated basis. You may also opt to travel to the homes at your leisure in your own car. If this is your choice, you will check-in at 215 Adams St. (the Forbes House Museum) for a map and driving directions anytime after 12:55 pm. The homes are open from 1 – 4 pm. Tickets purchased in advance are $18 for museum members, and $20 for non-members. Tickets may also be purchased for $25 for all on the day of the event at either the Fontbonne Academy parking lot (for trolley goers) or at the museum at 215 Adams St. (for auto travelers). The Forbes House Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and preservation of the contributions of the Forbes family to the development of Boston as a major American commercial center. Built as a home in 1883 and occupied by members of the Forbes family until the 1960’s, the museum contains original 18th and 19th century furnishings, art, and objects from the early China trade, as well as a substantial amount of Lincoln memorabilia. The landscaped grounds of the house, located at 215 Adams Street in Milton, are open daily free of charge to the public and the Museum is open Tues. – Thurs. and Sun. 1-4 p.m. and by appointment.
