MPD Officer Weekes nominated for Robert P. Dana Law Day Award

by Frank Schroth

Citing a situation in which two dangerous suspects were taken off the street, Chief Richards Wells has nominated Officer Travis Weekes for the Robert P. Dana Law Day Award.

Early on the morning of January 17th Officer Weekes was on patrol on Route 138 near the Canton line.

Making a stop at an all night gas station, Weekes noticed a car pointed the wrong way at the pumps and, given the hour of the night and the odd parking job, he ran a check and learned the car had been stolen. Joined by two state troopers, Weekes removed the passengers. In the process he discovered a knife and a loaded hand gun.

In his letter to District Attorney Michael Morrisey, Chief Wells refers to the danger officers face in the most routine stops as recently seen with recent shooting of Boston Police Officer John Moynihan.

Chief Wells writes:

Congratulations to Officer Travis Weekes on this award. Great “heads up” police work. To be receiving this honor in your first year as a police officer is quite impressive.
